Nursery
Spring has sprung here at Willington nursey!
The children have been exploring Spring this week through a variety of gardening activities. They have enjoyed digging, planting, and watering in the sunshine while also discovering a few little minibeasts along the way! They have started painting colourful and vibrant garden pictures to decorate the outdoor area, with some already displayed in the nursery windows.
This week, we began learning about the life cycle of a sunflower. The children sequenced the journey from seed to flower and had the opportunity to plant their own seeds in pots. They have taken on the responsibility of watering and checking them daily and these will be sent home for you to enjoy next week.
We have also been learning a new growing-themed song, “Plant a Little Seed,” which the children have been singing very merrily in the garden.
In maths, we continued our sunflower theme by counting seeds and matching them to numbered flower stems. The children also discovered that soil and shaving foam make a great (though slightly messy!) material for practising letter formation.
It has been a wonderful week of hands-on learning and we look forward to seeing how the children's sunflowers grow!
