Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Our trip to the exquisite John Soane Museum was a real treat. We explored the beautiful rooms and were amazed by the secret walls in the picture gallery. The architect John Soane was an enthusiastic collector of classical artifacts and the space is jam packed with Egyptian, Greek and Roman sculptures and objects. We found out all about the huge sarcophagus which forms a centrepiece in the house and saw real hieroglyphics and cartouches.
Back in the classroom, we finished our thrilling "Into the Tomb" stories, complete with blurb and "about the author", and started to type them up to make beautiful books that we can't wait to show off. In Maths we finished work on fractions and decimals for now and had fun weighing things, estimating how heavy they might be, choosing which units we should use for bigger or smaller objects and converting between units. Then we switched back to time, remembering how digital time works. We're continuing to study fossils, discovering how they are formed and identifying different kinds and sorting them. In History we learned all about pyramids; how and why they were built and what was put inside them. We're making our own for homework!
Thank you to everyone who visited the Travelling Book Fair, we hope you are enjoying the books you chose. Also a BIG thank you to everyone who donated books for the Children's Book Project to share with families who are less fortunate.
