We cannot believe that it is half term at the end of next week - our first term as Year 5 has gone too fast!
This week in Science, we have been investigating friction forces using a ramp, a toy car and seven different surfaces. We identified the variables of a fair test and completed the investigation report. In Drama, we had fun focusing on physical theatre and contorting ourselves into different shapes and objects. Miss Wilkinson said we showed real creativity and humour during the lesson and we worked well as a team.
In Latin, Miss Henson had us playing a really fun game of Simo Dicit (Simon Says) with saltate! (dance!), consumite! (eat!) and dormite! (sleep!) some of our favourite commands! In History, we have completed our fact files on the Anglo-Saxons, after adding some extra information about Anglo-Saxon gods, and in Geography, we have been learning how to write a balanced argument, identifying the correct structure before getting into teams to research how Costa Rica is able to use 98% renewable energy sources to power itself. In French, we have been learning about numbers up to 20. We have completed addition and subtraction maths problems in French and had the chance to learn new number songs. After this, we then learnt how to ask and give our age, and make up sentences using the verb 'avoir' in the present tense.
In Maths, we have spent the week dividing, and have been looking at informal and formal methods of division. We used the 'bus stop' method both in the long and short format. Mr Wildman then introduced us to 'chunking,' which is a different way to divide, both formally and informally. Next week is all about fractions - Yay! Finally, in English, we began the week practising our cursive handwriting and published our recipe poems. We then used colloquial and slang language to create a new section of our class text, High Rise Mystery, and we then learnt all about modal verbs.
Have a wonderful weekend!
