Equality
On Monday, we concluded our series of three assemblies focused on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Through an interactive activity known as "the unfair game", we demonstrated the inequalities present in our society, highlighting how individuals have differing levels of resources and opportunities. It was heartening to hear the children propose ideas for creating a more inclusive and equitable environment within our unique school community.
Wednesday evening saw us hosting our biennial Future Schools Showcase event. Despite a few last-minute withdrawals, seventeen of London's top schools participated. It was an excellent opportunity for those who attended to gain insights into what the London secondary education scene has to offer. On Thursday, I was fortunate to visit Thomas's College in Richmond, a new school set to open in September 2025. It promises a unique educational approach, blending traditional London day school elements with a modern, American university-style curriculum. It comes highly recommended for those seeking a progressive education option.
This week, many of our pupils ventured out into the community with Miss Nijhuis, creating new links, including a visit to a local nursing home by our Year 4 children. These activities underscore our commitment to community engagement, a hallmark we aim to expand upon. Willington is on a path to becoming a true community school, and we look forward to further collaborations within the Wimbledon area. If you're involved with local charities or organisations, we would be delighted to connect and explore partnership opportunities. Please visit the community page to find out more.
As hard as it may be to believe, half-term is just around the corner. Next week will see the first of our parents' evenings, scheduled for both Pre-Prep and Year 6. I will also be initiating meetings with Year 5 parents to begin preparations for the 11-plus, sharing our insights on both the pupils and the destination schools.
This Saturday, our under-10 and under-11 football teams will be competing at The Mall School in Twickenham. Mr Gibbs is optimistic about adding more trophies to his collection, and we eagerly anticipate their performance. On Monday the Prep assembly is fortunate to have Mclaren F1 in school as part of our ‘Opening Minds’ assembly series. Lots to look forward to.
Wishing you all a splendid weekend. KB
