It has been a busy penultimate week of the half term in Year 2.
In Maths, we continued with addition and subtraction. This week, we focused on multiples of tens and ones and solving missing number sentences using the inverse. Our English work on explanation texts took us from crocodiles to butterflies this week. We began by exploring the body parts of a butterfly and the children produced their own explanation texts with a diagram, labels and definitions. We then had great fun creating a giant class butterfly life cycle complete with captions, which lead to producing individual flow charts of the process.
In Science, we continued our ‘Taking Care’ topic with a look at where germs are hidden and set up a potato investigation. We cut a potato into four pieces, and using one piece as the control, we rolled another dirt, wiped one on the toilet floor and passed the final piece around the class using hands. We put each piece in a ziplock bag and left them all in a dark cupboard until next week, when we will find out what happened! In History, as part of our Tudors topic, the children selected a favourite of Henry VIII’s wives, researched her and produced a piece of information writing, complete with key dates, interesting facts and opinion. The pupils also created some wonderful Henry VIII portraits using collage materials, in their Creative topic lessons.
Have a wonderful weekend.
