It has been a busy week this week with an Olympic medalist leading our fitness marathon, National Poetry Day and Harvest.
In History, Mrs Draper helped us celebrate National Poetry Day by teaching us about Anglo-Saxon Kennings. She then set us a challenge to create a double-paged fact file about the Anglo-Saxons. We have learnt about what key features a fact file needs (and why), reminded ourselves how to use a contents page and index to help locate information quickly, and are honing our independent research and summary skills. We are looking forward to sharing our hard work next week! In Geography, we have focused on how to write developed answers, focusing on the Point, Example, Explanation technique, to write about renewable energy sources.
In English with Mrs Battey, we have been writing news reports based on what we know so far about the crime in the High Rise Mystery, our class text, and focused on inference questions using PEE for comprehensions. We also wrote fun recipe poems on National Poetry Day on Thursday. In Science, we had to think carefully to answer some questions about weight and mass. This highlighted the importance of reading questions thoroughly. What initially seemed impossible became much easier once we paid close attention to what the questions were asking. Lots of ‘eureka’ moments!
In Latin, we learnt a new kind of verb, commands - or imperatives to give them their proper name! Next time we will use this newly acquired knowledge to play ‘Simo Dicit’ (Simon Says in Latin) - we are really looking forward to it! In French, we’ve been working on a project to wrap up our learning about school objects. We wrote a paragraph describing everything in our school bags and discussed the plural forms of nouns.
Have a wonderful weekend!
