Olympic medals can feel akin to London buses at Willington: you wait ages for one, and then two arrive within a fortnight! This week, it was Victoria Ohuruogu's turn to grace us with her presence, participating in what could only be described as a school-wide fitness extravaganza. Joe Wicks, step aside - Victoria had the children energetically engaged, followed by an assembly. She shared her journey of patience and perseverance, overcoming numerous obstacles to finally compete at the Paris Olympics this summer, where she secured a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay. Her story enthralled the children, and undoubtedly, many will draw significant inspiration from such a remarkable figure.
Aside from our distinguished Olympian assemblies, we recently held the second session in our 'Opening Minds' series of assemblies, where we were delighted to welcome Rebecca Hamlin (mother of Mia and Leo) as our special guest. Mrs Hamlin, who works as a curator of an art collection, shared her profound love for art in conversation with Miss Beere and inspired the children to pursue their artistic aspirations.
This morning, we held our Harvest Festival assembly, during which we had the pleasure of welcoming Greg from the Wimbledon Guild. He shared with the children the commendable work of the organisation in assisting those less fortunate within the Wimbledon and Merton areas. A heartfelt thank you to each family who contributed to this cause. We look forward to further collaborations with them as we deepen our ties to the community.
With less than a week to go before our Future Schools Showcase, I wanted to share an exciting update – Emanuel School will also be in attendance. This is a fantastic addition to our already impressive list of participating schools and is definitely worth considering for parents interested in a co-educational option. Additionally, we're extending an invitation to our Year 3 parents. This is a great opportunity to start building relationships with the admissions teams from these outstanding schools. I'm really looking forward to seeing many of you there next Wednesday evening.
Following closely on the heels of our football team’s success, I'm thrilled to announce that our girls' netball team won their first tournament this week. Congratulations to everyone involved! Mrs Laudy was extremely proud of the girls' efforts.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. KB
