What a week it has been for Willington sport! Hot off two tournament wins for Year 2 and Year 3 in football, our mixed netball team won at Aberdour, beating the hosts, Banstead, Cumnor House and Ewell Castle. We are so proud of this group as this was their first tournament experience, so to go through it unbeaten and come away with gold medals is just so exciting!
I'd like to say a big well done to Mrs Laudy and Ms Brown who have really developed all of the girls and boys in netball. The hard work is paying off.
On Tuesday, fourteen of our Year 1 boys took part in their first ever fixture at Milbourne Lodge. It was a very sweet couple of matches, and there was a noticeable improvement throughout the morning.
Alongside the boys football matches, we had Year 1 & Year 2 netball matches, with all girls from both year group playing. Two strong performances saw our teams 'effectively' win, although scores weren't technically kept by staff, the girls did and they made a point of telling us on numerous occasions before getting back to school
The return leg will be on Tuesday 19th of November, and once those matches are complete, all of Year 1 will have represented Willington in the mighty red and black stripes.
This week we enjoyed a fabulous morning of sport, with Chloe and Victoria Ohuruogu putting our boys and girls through their paces. Victoria then gave an inspirational assembly, based on the values of persistence and patience. It was really insightful hearing about her initial success at junior level and the difficulties she faced over an eight year period due to form and injuries. It was a long journey, but by having patience and perseverance, she finally made it to some of the biggest athletics meets, including the Paris Olympics this year. There were some important lessons to learn from her story, and hopefully our pupils will come away with lots of inspiration.
There is still time to get your sponsorship money in, the deadline is Thursday 10th October.
Have a lovely weekend, and if you're playing sport, good luck!

We have had a lot of success outside of school across lots of different sports. Last weekend Rory managed to secure 11th place out of 40 riders at the Wessex Cyclocross League meet in Reading. Very impressive in muddy conditions against an experienced and competitive field!
At the start of the Summer, we were delighted and proud of Oscar, our U11A team captain for signing his first contract with Brentford football club. An amazing achievement and we are very lucky to have such a good player and role model in the school!
