Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
After a wet and wild week, capped off with an afternoon navigating the muddy landscapes of Drax for our House Cross Country, we are definitely ready for the weekend! Here is a round-up our Week 4 highlights.
This week in English we have been looking at the use of the motif of birds and flying throughout Skellig and understanding its connotations. We then linked into the use of symbolism, specifically, the power of dreams and how they can be interpreted. Algebra: collecting like terms and simplifying expressions and substitution into expressions.
In Science, we used ray boxes to investigate reflection and refraction. To study refraction, we used a glass block and took precise measurements of the angles of incidence and refraction to demonstrate how light travels and bends when passing through different media. In Computing, we are continuing our project to build a Google Site, each focusing on a topic of our choice. In Drama this week, we completed the first part of a script read-through of our Leavers' Production. It has been wonderful to see the pupils embracing the humour in the show and even contributing their own ideas; many of which we will be adding into the Production!
In Humanities, we have been completing our fact files about animals and plants native to the Middle East, exploring how they have adapted to survive in the unique biomes of this fascinating region. In History, we have been comparing everyday life and medicine in medieval Baghdad with life in England during the same period, presenting our findings in the form of beautifully decorated manuscripts.
