新年快樂
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone. This Wednesday, we celebrated the cultural day with a delightful Chinese lunch, complete with fortune cookies. Moreover, this week was also marked by Reception classes’ belated tribute to Robert Burns, featuring a feast of haggis. In an effort to celebrate the many cultures from around the world that we have at Willington, cultural heritage days are a fun way to recognise our diverse community. I hasten to add, it’s not all about the food!
If your child enjoys playing video games at home, we have some important resources for you to access. Firstly, there is a webinar on the Tooled Up Education website, titled "Everything Parents Need to Know About Roblox." This resource provides vital information, as Roblox, while being a lot of fun (I am told), also contains elements parents should be wary of. You can access this webinar here. As per Mrs Henery’s email, Dr Weston will host a special webinar for the parents of Willington titled "What Every Parent Needs to Know About Children's Engagement with the Digital World." This essential webinar is scheduled for February 10th at 7:30 PM—a crucial session in today’s digital age. In this webinar, Dr Weston will share evidence-based, clear advice for parents and tips that they can easily apply within family life. Please sign up.
This week, Reception and Year 1 ventured beyond the grounds of Willington. Reception was thrilled to share their experiences from their trip to the planetarium on Thursday, while Year 1 visited the magnificent Brooklands Museum. A standout moment this week was the house cross country event on Friday. It was great to see so many of you there, cheering on the children in one of our more challenging school events. It certainly was proper cross country weather and the conditions underfoot didn’t let us down. Thank you Mr Gibbs and the team for putting on the event. I know this is Mr Gibbs’ favourite time of the year, with the 6 Nations kicking off tonight, so he deserves to put his feet up in front of the TV I think!
Today I received the rather sad news of the passing of Mr Tony Hay, ex-Headmaster of Willington. Although Mr Hay will be unknown to the majority of the current school community, he nevertheless has played an important role in the 140 years of our being, and we pass on our collective condolences to his family.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. KB
