Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
The highlight of this week in Year 1 was undoubtedly Science. The children were very excited to head up to the Science Lab for their lesson all about fish. They got to examine fish, label the different outer parts, and even see what the inside looks like too. Hopefully they didn't come home smelling too fishy!
In English, we started a three week unit on 'The Bog Baby' and the pupils absolutely loved the story. We completed comprehension and descriptive tasks, imagined what the Bog Baby was thinking and feeling at various points, and practised adding the suffixes -er and -est ready for more descriptive work later in the topic. The book finishes by asking us to watch out for Bog Babies and keep a record if you find one, so apologies if you are dragged to a squelchy habitat in search of one this weekend!
Our Maths focus was 3D shapes and the children really impressed us with how much they alrerady knew about this topic. We named and sorted shapes and compared their features, in terms of faces, edges and vertices. In History, our transport topic found us ordering cars chronologically on a timeline, which will come in very handy on our trip to Brooklands Museum next week. More fun in Geograpphy, where we took a virtual tractor ride around a farm to discover the different areas and features.
Have a wonderful weekend, Bog Baby-hunting or otherwise!
