Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
24th January 2025
It has certainly been an interesting week here at Willington with so much achieved by everyone. Alongside various initiatives, our Senior Leadership Team has been busy brainstorming upcoming celebrations for the year. A noteworthy highlight is the reintroduction of the whole school photograph, a tradition we hadn't continued for a few years due to disruptions caused by the pandemic. Excitingly, this event is now scheduled for the morning of Friday, 13th June (what could possibly go wrong?!). We appeal to everyone to avoid booking any appointments or falling ill on this date. It's important that all children are present for this historic photo, polished to within an inch of their lives, which will be taken in front of the school, thanks to Mrs Woodley’s efforts in securing a road closure for the event.
In other news, next Friday marks the return of our highly anticipated house competition in cross-country running. The mere mention of cross-country running brings back a flood of memories from my own school days—memories I've tried to push to the back of my mind! Interestingly, with Storm Eowyn currently crossing the UK, I feel we’ve missed the perfect day for our cross-country event. This event covers all children from reception up to year six and promises to be an excellent day of competition, it would be great to see many of you there.
Next week, Reception and Year 1 children will have the exciting opportunity to visit Brooklands Museum and the Planetarium. These trips are a wonderful way to broaden the children's educational experiences. I fondly remember my own visit to the Brooklands Museum a few years back with Year 6, finally achieving a long held wish of mine to go on Concord (sadly not moving though); it truly is a fantastic outing for both children and adults of all ages.
I hope, weather permitting, you are able to get out and about this weekend and enjoy some fresh air. Have a great weekend. KB
