Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This busy week ended with our spectacular Engineering Day. We're considering the earliest engineers and got together in house groups to construct magnificent models of engineered designs from the ancient world and then proudly shared the results.
We were also hands-on in Science, where we made our own fossils and learnt about how fossils are formed. Our "Into the Tomb" stories are progressing nicely, the action becoming ever more tense as we discover hidden tombs and are chased by mummies. In History we are finding out how mummies are actually made. The part about the organs being extracted and placed in a jar always goes down well! We're also learning the extraordinary story of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. Still in the ancient world, we read the next chapter in our Minimus books and are tackling the idea that Latin verb endings change depending on who is doing the action. In Maths we've been working on fractions, comparing them, finding their lowest terms and equivalents and converting them to decimals.
Firmly back in the modern world, our reading of The Lorax has led us on to the horrific subject of deforestation and we're wondering what we can do about it. Meanwhile, we hope you can get out amongst the trees this weekend!
