Nursery
Nursery have had a “beesy” week as we enter the Bee life cycle and learn all about the important work Bees do for our environment. The children watched a short clip of the bee life cycle, as well as a CBBC competition called ‘Show Me The Honey’ and found this fascinating as it reinforced their understanding of cycles and sequencing, they also completed their own bee cycle to add to their booklets.
The most anticipated bee activity happened midweek “Honey Sandwich”. Each child made their own honey sandwich and while making these lots of chatter was based on the process of how honey is made, demonstrating the children are retaining some wonderful knowledge regarding their environment.
We kept with the Bee theme for our Math activities using Beehives and little bees and flowers to match quantity and numerals. The children also practiced and refined their fine manipulative skills as we introduced tongs to pick up the bees and place them on the Beehives. The children enjoyed this extra challenge. Bees and flowers continued on the interactive board as each child had a turn to practice placing the bees and flowers into the correct numeral sequences 1-5 5-10.
The Ramadan fun continues where each and every child had the chance to take home a treat from the Ramadan calendar as a reward for showing kindness and respect towards each other and the Willington community. In line with our Maths fun we designed and crafted our Ramadan paper dolls and the children decorated one for each family member, using different media and materials, counting and arranging the dolls in order from 1 to 10. The children were also introduced to their names written in Arabic from right to left to go on their dolls.
