October 29

Hello families! This week's newsletter is going to look different than usual. I'm interested to see if this format is more preferred or if the previous method (Google Slides) is more user-friendly. Feel free to use the Google form below to leave feedback!

With the end of the 1st trimester approaching, over the next two weeks, students will be taking end of the trimester assessments. We will use the data to see their growth from the beginning of the year and it will be great points of discussion for student-led conferences!

Math

We wrapped up our chapter 3 (subtraction) unit. Look for those to go home in their upcoming Friday Folders. If your child is interested in retaking the assessment, please click here. This upcoming week, we will be taking our chapter 4/5 math pre test (multiplication patterns/division patterns). Moving forward, the next few weeks, students will be learning multiplication and division and learn the relationship between the two.

ELA

Students have ben working on adding a hook to the beginning of their narrative writing. We have also been working on typing up our work on a Google Doc. We have also been continuing to add to our "Fall Break" padlet. Click here to see what your child wrote!

Science

We went on our first field trip of the year! We had a great time learning about the Chinook Salmon's life cycle and how Nimbus plays an important role in preserving the species. Over the next few weeks, students will be learning about weather, biomes, and adaptations animals have that help them survive.

Book Recommendation

This weekend, I went to a conference where Brad Montague was the keynote speaker. Brad is the creator of Kid President and I was so inspired when I heard him talking about how to keep kid's dreams alive and being a positive impact on a child's life. I highly recommend his book "Kid President's Guide to Being Awesome". It is filled with positive and uplifting messages. Click here for the video about the book!
