We are working on elements of informational writing. Click here to see the rubric for what 3rd grade students are expected to be able to do by the end of this trimester.

Science

We are going to do a few Mystery Science projects in the upcoming weeks! For these experiments, there are some items we will need. Click here to see what we need! If you are able to bring in any items, please fill in your name on the spreadsheet.

ODDS AND ENDS

  • Holiday Book Exchange: On Thursday, December 21st we will have a holiday book exchange. Please look for the blue note coming home in your child's blue folder for more details!
  • The Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree: At the end of each year The Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree organizes their biggest event, The Holiday Giving Tree. Referrals for eligible children and their gift wishes come to us directly from hospital nurses, doctors, social workers, teachers, principals and school nurses in the Sacramento and Woodland areas. Those gift wishes are then placed as ornaments on holiday trees placed in schools, businesses and churches. Generous souls then take ornaments from the tree and fulfill the wishes as listed. All gifts are then picked up at the various locations. The gifts are matched and sorted by child, families and location. The next day all gifts are delivered to the children. To date, we've helped over 8000 kids. Click HERE for their informational flier.
  • Talent Show: It’s that time of year families! We are gearing up for the spectacular Westlake Charter School Talent Show Extravaganza! ALL students K-8 are encouraged to audition on Wednesday, January 17th. Come sing, dance, perform a comedy act, a gymnastics routine, play a musical instrument, or any talent, or you can join us for a WCS group dance. Click here to sign up to audition. If you are applying as a group, only one person from the group needs to apply online. Applications are due NO LATER than Thursday, December 21st.
  • After School Live: The first session of LIVE, Westlake's after-school club program, was a huge success! Our next session will run from January 22–March 9. Please Click here to sign-up to lead a club and provide our Explorers with joyful learning experiences! The volunteer information flier has more information about what it means to lead a club. If you have any questions, please email Allison Chavez at live@westlakecharter.com.
  • Candy Grams: Our amazing leadership elective will be creating Candygrams during Kindergarten Dismissal and 1-8 grade dismissal. For Kindergarten Dismissal, the team will be located in front of the kindergarten building. During 1-8th grade dismissal, they will be in front of the Library. Leadership will have a Candygram table on Monday 12/11 and Tuesday 12/12.
