READING with RAZ-Kids

Robinson School has purchased a subscription to The RAZ-Kids reading  program for each classroom.  RAZ-Kids is an interactive reading tool for students to practice reading fluency and comprehension.  The students have a login and a password to get into their reading account.  I am able to monitor the students' progress and change their reading level.  These levels are all individually based on each child's reading level and are adjusted to reflect their abilities.  The students can listen to a story, read a story out loud, record themselves reading, and then take a comprehension quiz.  Each child earns points or stars to use for their RAZ Rocket which allows them to buy things for their rocket.  Your should have received a login instructions last week with your child's unique login and password.  Please let me know if you did not receive this.    Enjoy reading and  let me know if you have any questions or problems accessing the site.  This is a wonderful tool that will allow your child to build literacy skills, but I strongly encourage parents to continue reading to  your child daily as this is still a very important piece in your child's reading development.

Comparing Stories

One of the skills students are working on during Literacy times is comparing stories. Children are specifically looking for similarities and differences of characters and settings. Below are two stories we read that have many similarities and differences. Have your child talk to you about what they noticed when comparing these stories.

WISH LIST

Great Kindness Challenge Info

Winter is officially here! We go outside each day, (weather permitting).   Please send your child to school with a hat and mittens or gloves each day. (Waterproof mittens/gloves are best).  Snow pants and boots are required to play in the snow.  Please label everything … even mittens!

Students should bring snow clothes in a separate bag.   The reusable grocery shopping bags from Market Basket, Target, Trader Joes are great for this.  (Please label this bag as well). These bags with gear may be left at school for the season if you wish.

Please have your child bring crocs, sneakers, shoes or hard-soled slippers to change into for the school day.   Boots are too hot and messy for children to be wearing all day long.

 Thank you!

Mrs. Cecere

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed the break and the extra time with family and friends. It will be great to see everyone back at school this week. December was quite a busy month. We spent most of the month focusing on shared traditions and different holidays celebrated during this month. The kids also had a great time looking at all the family projects displayed in our hallway!

December was full of fun. We had a movie day, a pajama day and a party where we decorated gingerbread houses. Thank you to all who donated time and supplies for the party and the gingerbread houses. The kids had a great time! Below are some pictures from the party and the other fun activities we ended December with.

We have introduced several new math games. Each of these games is designed to build and strengthen your child's number sense. Adding numbers, counting and comparing are the concepts we are developing right now. All of these class games are differentiated in the classroom according to the your child's ability level.

Below I have provided some links to websites where you can practice these games. (The Number Match game is similar to the Dot-Match-it game your children have played in class. Please select "number - object" and the "memory" version of the game).

Rhythm Kids- Drumming Program

This highly interactive and engaging workshop takes children on a music adventure, exploring sounds from around the world to awaken the imagination! Children drum, sing and dance in lively ways to deepen their appreciation for cultural influences, and gain a deeper understanding of the important role music plays in connecting communities. We bring an instrument for each student and use tried and true pedagogy combined with our unique, effective methodology!  Thank you to the PTO for providing us with this amazing hands on program. See the pictures of the fun below.
