Happy Spring!

We spent over a month reading and comparing stories by Ezra Jack Keats.  The majority of them have the character Peter in the story.  Above I have a picture of the books with Peter.  Ask your child to tell you the names of the other characters in each story, many overlap.   Below is a youtube video tribute to Mr. Keats.... I am sure your children will recognize many of the characters in the tribute.  Please be sure to share the video with your child.

 Then we spent a lot of time focusing on our addresses.  Your children addressed envelopes and on Friday we mailed the notes to your homes!  Be on the lookout for these special letters to arrive in your mail in the next few days.    We will continue to practice addresses as the year goes.  After vacation we will start to practice phone numbers.   They'll be bringing home their own paper "Cell Phones" at the end of the month.  Please have them use the the phones to practice their phone numbers at home.  

 Check out the picture of our "town" below.  The class made replicas of their homes using shapes and we added the homes to the large map on our wall.  As a connection to Ezra JAck Keats we designed our  homes using Keats' collage style.  The kids had a great time deciding where they wanted to live on our map and then noticing who their new "neighbors" were.  Ask your child where their home is on this map.  This fun activity reinforces the concept of address and community.
