The application has opened for the 2025-26 AIFS Foundation George and Nell Kahdy International Study Abroad Scholarships. The scholarships are named after the school's founding principal and his wife, both longtime proponents of study abroad programs. Each scholarship is valued at $4,000, and two will be awarded to Enloe juniors for use in study abroad in the summer between junior and senior year.
Stella Paccione, at left, one of the recipients of the 24-25 scholarship, said, "Experiencing the unique culture of the northernmost region of France, I not only busted stereotypes I’d created in my head, I also learned more about myself and what I want my future to look like. I came out of this experience not only far closer to fluency but with a second family and friendships that I believe will last a lifetime. From exploring the quicksand surrounding Mont-Saint-Michel, learning graffiti, visiting art museums and learning traditional Bretagne dances to befriending stray cats, and figuring out public transportation in a non-English speaking country, my self-confidence has increased tenfold. The world really opened up for me with this trip and I, honestly, cannot wait to go back and to see my host family again (and of course to eat more amazing French food). I would repeat this summer experience again in a heartbeat and encourage anyone interested in experiencing another culture or language to apply for this scholarship. By doing so you open up a world of possibilities and you will come away with more confidence, knowledge, and (hopefully) with friendships that will withstand the test of time and distance. "
"Traveling to Costa Rica was definitely an out-of-my-comfort-zone experience," said Emily Dutton, right, the other 24-25 scholarship recipient. "I spent 2 weeks around entirely new people, places and foods, and yet I had one of the most fun trips I have ever been on. The program I chose was dedicated to conservation biology. I not only did the tourist things, I also got to put forth my time in a meaningful way; I volunteered with local communities, attended sessions where we learned about the complexities of our planet, worked in an animal sanctuary, and visited national parks. I also made more friends than I could have ever imagined from all over the U.S. that I still keep in touch with today. I wish I could repeat this trip a thousand times and would therefore recommend the scholarship to anyone who has any sort of passion pertaining to travel. Language, culture, and knowledge are all best found through exploration."
