Homeroom teachers and students collaborated to create Doors of Kindness. As part of the recent Great Kindness Challenge, students and staff were encouraged to convey messages of kindness that help promote AW's vision for a respectful and kind school community. Congratulations to all of the students and teachers who participated!

Art Teacher Ms. Lindsey Gorab painted a new mural on the wall of Packanack Elementary School's gymnasium. Packanack PE teacher, Mrs. Collins reinforces the message with every student that while it is good to compete as hard as you are able, it is important to always be kind.

One Book, One Ryerson Event
One Book, One Ryerson Event
On Friday, February 1st, Ryerson School embarked on its One Book, One Ryerson journey which will run throughout the month. The entire school community (every student, teacher, paraprofessional, administrator, nurse, custodian, and lunch aide) will read the book, "Aesop Fables", retold by author Ann McGovern. Students were given clues throughout the month of January to try and guess the chosen book. Every child unwrapped his/her book following a kick-off assembly. Fifth grade stars, Samantha Laracuente and Hailey Jensen contributed to the assembly with a Readers’ Theater Performance of “The Tortoise and the Hare”, while Board Member Suzanne Pudup read the fable aloud. The One Book, One Ryerson Initiative promotes the idea of a community of shared readers.

Three Wayne Schools Earn Yearbook Honors
Three Wayne schools have earned national recognition for their 2018 yearbooks. Wayne Valley High School, advised by Erica Foster and Kara Condon; Wayne Hills High School, advised by Patricia Noll; and George Washington Middle School, advised by Tara Cooper Weiss were all featured in Herff Jones Yearbooks publication Portfolio, which is a compilation of best yearbooks from around the country.

Heff Jones writes, “From the thousands of yearbooks printed by Herff Jones, 420 schools were chosen across multiple categories. Judged by industry experts on various design and storytelling elements, such as theme, coverage, and more, the featured staffs truly epitomize the student innovation that came from yearbook classrooms in 2018.”

In competition with public and private schools who have dedicated yearbook curriculums and dedicated journalism programs, Wayne has earned this honor from clubs and students who work after school hours to produce a top-notch publication.
