SCMS Visits Hudson Table in Hoboken

Tutti a Tavola! Ms. Pierri's 8th Grade Italian class flexed their culinary muscles in a hands-on cooking class at Hudson Table in Hoboken. Students rolled up their sleeves and made some classic Italian dishes such as pappardelle, ragĂą, and bomboloni.

A professional chef walked them through the process of creating a refined meal, covering kitchen safety, culinary techniques, and how to put a beautiful meal on the table making every nonna proud! In the end, students took off their aprons and enjoyed their meals around a communal table.

Wayne Hills Future Business Leaders of America

Wayne Hills FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) has had some great accomplishments this year in both community service and in competitions. They donated non-perishables and gift cards to the Oasis Women's shelter in December. For their NJFBLA regional competition, they had 18 students place in the Northern Region. At the state level, the team had 2 students placed in the Top 10 - Senior Daryna Yushchenko and Junior Luke Kornhaber. Also, the chapter won an Award of Merit for their Chapter Website.

Wayne Hills FBLA was also thrilled to have a student represent Wayne Hills at the National Competition and Conference to be held in Chicago at the end of June - Junior Luke Kornhaber will compete in Accounting 1 at the National Competition.

Teacher Advisors, Ms. Noll and Ms. Tomaiko are proud of all of the FBLA members, and wish Luke the best of luck at Nationals!

Multicultural / Leadership Night Hosted at Ryerson Elementary School

The Leader in Me program is continuing its 4th school year at Ryerson Elementary School. This program highlights leadership and life skills in students, creates a high-trust school culture, and lays the foundation for sustained academic achievement.

Within this program model, student-led leadership is strongly encouraged. At Ryerson’s Multicultural / Leadership Night, students were at the forefront of the event, with different leadership positions being carried out by the kids themselves. Student leaders displayed poster boards highlighting their involvement in various clubs, and shared their experiences with the families that were present; these students were proudly identified by “Leader of the Pack” t-shirts.

Cultural traditions were shared by contributing families, and entertainment was provided by an NYC-based mariachi band.

Ryerson’s Leadership / Multicultural Night was a great success, and the hope is that it will return again next school year!
