Wayne Valley High Schools First Ever Girls Flag Football Team
At the February 10, 2022 Public Work Session, the Board approved the $8,000 grant from the New York Jets to start Wayne Valley’s first ever girls Flag Football program. The grant includes Nike uniforms, flags, and footballs. The NFL has been reaching out to communities across New Jersey, and there are several surrounding communities that will also have girls flag football teams. 63 Wayne Valley girls attended the general interest meeting, and the plan is for the team to start this spring. The Jets committed to offering funding for a Wayne Hills girls flag football program for next year although the Wayne Board of Education is seeking to fund a team for Wayne Hills so the programs start at the same time.
Wayne Valley High School has been selected from a competitive field of applicants and is 1 of 50 high schools in the state of New Jersey awarded a grant from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This $20,000.00 grant enables up to 10% of staff to be trained and implement a teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) program for Wayne Valley High School students.
As an evidence-based training program, (tMHFA) is a program geared towards students ages 15-18, which will teach students how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use among their friends. The training is designed to empower students to have supportive conversations with their friends while also getting help from trusted adults when appropriate.

AWMS Students Send Valentines to Local Senior Citizens
Ms. Manfra and Ms. Marcinowski's 6th Grade Seminar students created Valentines for local retirement homes to send love to those in our community. Social-emotional learning is a key component of the 6th Grade Seminar course and building empathy in our students while allowing them to be creative helps to spark a life-long desire to serve others.
Packanack Pennies for Playground
Last week, Packanack classes waged a Penny War. Classes competed for "Most Points" and "Most Dollars". There was a flurry of excitement each morning as students added pennies (positive points) to their own class jar and silver coins (negative points) to the other classes' jars. The most strategic classes won in each category. In all, over $6,500 was raised for the new playground equipment! Thank you Packanack PTO President Amy Scaturro and Mrs. Collins for a fun and successful fundraiser.
