Automotive Technology Students Participate in Virtual Shop Tour
A number of Wayne Hills Automotive Technology students participated in a virtual, behind the scenes tour of Roush Yates Racing Engines in Mooresville, North Carolina. This unique learning opportunity was was sponsored by the Universal Technical Institute (UTI).
A number of Wayne Hills Automotive Technology students participated in a virtual, behind the scenes tour of Roush Yates Racing Engines in Mooresville, North Carolina. This unique learning opportunity was was sponsored by the Universal Technical Institute (UTI).
Todd English, VP, Strategic Partnerships and Marketing hosted the event, and showed students the facility that produces over 1,000 purpose-built racing engines annually. The students learned how research and development partnerships with manufacturers such as Ford and Toyota result in not only racing engine improvements, but also include advances in passenger vehicles, aerospace, and even the medical industries.

The students were impressed with the size of the facility, the huge number of engines and parts produced, the engineering that goes into the engines, and the unbelievable cleanliness of all the areas.

Pines Lake Elementary School Recognizes AAC Month
October was International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness month. Throughout Pines Lake Elementary School, activities occurred that expanded everyone’s awareness of AAC.
October was International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness month. Throughout Pines Lake Elementary School, activities occurred that expanded everyone’s awareness of AAC.
Students who use AAC were speakers during morning announcements, telling about the weather and sharing jokes. Presentations were provided for all 4th and 5th grade students about AAC, including discussions about what it is, why people use it, types and benefits of AAC, and how students and staff can help users of AAC be included within the community atmosphere of Pines Lake School.

Finally, teachers and students in the 4th and 5th grades were introduced to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s “Communication Bill of Rights” and classroom discussions were held regarding how some of these rights are reflected within the inclusive community of Pines Lake School.

Wayne Leo Clubs Lead the 2021 JDRF Walk
On Saturday, October 16th, forty-four Wayne Hills Leo Club members joined Wayne Valley Leos and members of the Wayne and West Milford Lions Clubs in a walk to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The Wayne Hills Leo Club raised over $1,000 as part of the JDRF team Miracle for Matthew. Before walking, Matthew, an eleven-year-old boy who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since his diagnosis at age one, emphasized the impact that fundraising has on him. He is pictured to the right of his twin brother at the front of the group photo, and is a perfect example of why WHHS students choose to volunteer.

On October 28th, James Fallon Elementary School held their Student Council Induction Ceremony. The ceremony was held outside so that all parents could attend. Over 70 students ran for Student Council this year and 32 students were elected by their peers.

Student Council is a great way for the students to learn about the democratic process. Under the supervision of Principal Maayan and Counselor Malone, the Student Council helps to improve the school climate, as well as, organize multiple community service activities.

On hand for the ceremony was Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney who assisted in the swearing in of the new Student Council representatives. Assemblyman Rooney also presented each Student Council representative with a special certificate from the state of New Jersey. Congratulations to all students who ran for office!
