Wayne Valley Marching Band Wins State Championships
On Sunday, October 31st , the Wayne Valley Marching Band traveled to The College of New Jersey to participate in New Jersey Marching Band Directors Association (NJMBDA) State Championships, and left with a State Championship.
Going into the competition, the Wayne Valley Marching Band completed an undefeated regular season winning five 1st place trophies, 11 caption awards for Best Music/Visual/Effect, and defeating over 19 different bands in the span of five weeks. The band competed against 11 bands from all over New Jersey.
Not only did the students place first in their class - they also earned the caption award for Best Music. Finally, of the 40 total bands in attendance, Wayne Valley High School was in the top 15 scores of the entire day.
Wayne Hills Marching Band Wins Tournament of Band Championship
The Wayne Hills Patriot Marching Band added to their fantastic season with a Gold Rating at the New Jersey Music Educators State Marching band Festival held at Wayne Hills High School on October 23rd. Wayne Hills Band also won the Tournament of Bands Chapter 10 division 3A Championship, and the award for best music, at the Tournament of Bands Championships on Sunday, October 24th. Congratulations!
Autism Awareness and Anti-Bullying Presentation at Pines Lake
Pines Lake 4th and 5th grade students had the opportunity to meet international speaker, best-selling author, and autism advocate Dr. Kerry Magro on October 20th to discuss bullying prevention, autism awareness, and why kindness matters.
Dr. Magro has become a role model in the disabled community. The students were thrilled to learn about him and his accomplishments, and the assembly sparked meaningful classroom discussions of acceptance and bullying prevention. Thank you to the Pines Lake PTO for making this possible.
Work-Based Learning at Wayne Hills High School
Work-Based Learning at Wayne Hills has had an unbelievable start. The program has over 25 students participating and 10 new partnerships with local businesses in the community. The students are either at a paid job, paid internship or unpaid internship. These students are learning job skills while earning high school credit. Congratulations to so many students that have been accepted into the Work-Based Learning Program at Wayne Hills!
The featured student this month is Hailey Conklin. Hailey is an intern at Oakland Spine and Physical Therapy. She is not only learning valuable skills in the field she will pursue as a career, but she is also earning hours that will count toward her college degree.
Congratulations Hailey and a special thanks to Oakland Spine and Physical Therapy and the many other local businesses that partner with our schools to make these work experiences available to our high school students!
Therapy Dog at Ryerson Elementary
Ryerson Elementary School is excited to share that they have our very own therapy dog, Tucker, who has joined their school community.
Ryerson Teacher, Ms. Lindsay Hassert, recently certified Tucker, her Blue Merle Mini Aussiedoodle, through the Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc.
Tucker began his journey as a therapy dog at Ryerson Elementary School for the 21/22 school year, and during the time he has spent with the school community, he has been greeting students and staff, and getting many pets and hugs along the way. He has quickly become a beloved part of the Husky family.
APT Celebrates Peace Out Day with an All School Sing

On Wednesday, October 20th, A.P. Terhune School celebrated "Peace Out Day" to recognize School Violence Awareness with a musical assembly.
The entire school gathered outside in the warm October sunshine to sing "America the Beautiful," "We Can Work It Out" by the Beatles, and A.P. Terhune's School Song. Students and staff wore clothing and jewelry with peace signs and positive messages while being lead in song by Music Teacher, Mrs. Julianne Philp.
The students heard positive messages from School Counselor, Ms. Cordeira and she introduced the schools' Peer Mediators, which are comprised of 4th and 5th graders who will help students navigate peer conflicts throughout the school year.
