Acting Secretary of State Tahesha Way Visits John F. Kennedy Elementary School
On February 22, Mrs. Hilary Caruso’s Kindergarten class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School welcomed Acting Secretary of State Tahesha Way. Secretary Way joined the class to celebrate Black History Month and the artistic work of Alma Woodsey Thomas, an African-American artist and teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as one of the most important American painters of the 20th century. She was the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, and she exhibited her paintings at the White House three times. Thomas was the first student to graduate with a fine arts degree from Howard University.

Valentines for Veterans
The Randall Carter Student Council collected Valentines for Veterans for the Soldiers' Angels organization this February. The students organized and promoted the program throughout the school, collecting over 140 Valentine's Day cards to be sent to veterans and troops around the world!

As a culminating activity, class officers and representatives met at the American Legion in Wayne on February 10th to share about their service project and to hand out Valentine's Day cards to the veterans in attendance. The members at the American Legion graciously welcomed our students, giving a lesson about what it means to be a veteran and sharing stories about their service. The students showed great enthusiasm and reverence for the local veterans, asked wonderful questions and showed gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Randall Carter Elementary School looks forward to many more enriching service projects in our community.

Wayne Hills Girls Fencing Team Wins Passaic County Tournament
The Wayne Hills Girls Fencing Team won the Passaic County Tournament on Saturday, February 5th. Six fencers qualified for the individual round and two of them earned medals in foil. Senior Isabella Hatzoglu won the gold medal and senior Joy Lee earned the silver medal.

Dr. Payton MacDonald Shares the Study of Dhrupad
On Thursday, February 10th, the Wayne Valley Tri-M Music Honors Society and Multicultural Club hosted Dr. Payton MacDonald of William Paterson University as a guest speaker. Dr. Payton MacDonald is a world-renowned, classically trained percussionist, who has also immersed himself in the study of "Dhrupad," an ancient form of classical music from India. In his presentation to students, he discussed the cultural significance and history of Dhrupad, his development from western classical music to Indian classical music, the key theoretical differences between western and Indian music, and his experiences traveling to India and earning a discipleship under the Dhrupad guru Pandit Dharda Sahai.

James Fallon Soup-er Bowl
The Student Council at James Fallon conducted their annual Soup-er Bowl at their school. Students were asked to bring in a can of soup and place it on the table representing the team that they want to see win Super Bowl LVI. The cans were tallied up and the winning team was the Cincinnati Bengals. In total, over 200 cans of soup were collected. All soup collected was donated to the Wayne Food Pantry located at Wayne Hills High School. The Student Council would like to thank everyone for their generosity in donating cans of soup to this worthy cause.

Wayne Hills Wrestling Team Makes the Team State Sectional Tournament
The Wayne Hills Wrestling team made the Team State Sectional Tournament for the second time in school history this season. They made the tournament as the sixth seed and wrestled Montville on Monday, February 7th.

The team will be starting the individual part of their season on February 19th when they compete at the District Tournament at Jefferson High School.
