Dear Parents and Guardians,
Safety and security are the most pressing matters in public education today. The District continues to take steps to enhance our facilities and train our students and employees for a safer and more secure school system. On June 5th, we have primary elections in New Jersey and as you are aware, many of our schools are used as polling locations. I understand that parents may be concerned with the fact that outsiders will be entering our schools as part of this election. It is important to understand that there will be a very strong police presence at all of our school polling locations. Our partnership with the Wayne Police Department is one of the finest and strongest education/law enforcement partnerships in New Jersey. Their assistance during this upcoming election is a testament to the exemplary level of support we receive from the Wayne Police Department.
Regards,
Mark Toback, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
Last week, the Wayne Township Public Schools were recognized by the Anti Defamation League at their headquarters in New York City for our No Place for Hate Initiative. No Place for Hate® is designed to create inclusive school communities by promoting unity and respect, and empowering schools to reduce bullying, name-calling and other expressions of bias. All fourteen of our schools completed the requirements to be officially designated as No Place for Hate Schools by the Anti-Defamation League. Wayne has one of the few districts where every school met the requirements. Click HERE to learn more about No Place for Hate in the Wayne Township Public Schools.

Eli Paul, a rising senior at Wayne Hills, was awarded high honors at both the national and state level in two separate physics competitions. As a first-time competitor in the U.S. Physics Olympiad, Eli took a qualifying exam in January and was selected as one of 400 from an original pool of 5600 students from all over the country to move on and compete in the semi-final round. After taking the very rigorous semifinal exam in April, Eli received an Honorable Mention ranking, which places him in the top 5% of the students who participated in the US Physics Olympiad this year. Eli was also the standout member of the Hills AP Physics 2 team for the N.J. Science League. The teams took four monthly exams between January and April and his personal high scores on these exams placed him at the #2 spot in New Jersey. Congratulations to Eli on these amazing achievements!
The Service Learning Club at GWMS recently sponsored a food drive to stock local food pantries for the upcoming summer months, which is a time when they typically run low on the most basic and essential food items. The GW Community had fun while making a difference by partnering with the Red Nose Day Campaign to end childhood poverty right in their own backyard. Students generously contributed much needed food items. On May 24th, staff and students put on their red noses and wore red on "Red Nose Day" to raise awareness about childhood poverty.
On Thursday, May 24th, all Theunis Dey Elementary students participated in a Wellness Fair coordinated and facilitated by Mrs. Valencia, school counselor, and all of the school's specialist teachers. This fair was held in partial celebration of Abilities Awareness Month. The fair was a huge success! Students engaged in activities that broadened their understanding about differences among friendships and explored musical expression. Students were also provided calming techniques and ways to manage worries.
The Wayne Hills Junior/Senior Structured Learning Experience class participated in the Student Leadership Conference, "Dare to Dream".
