The Wayne Township Public Schools will be recognizing the many achievements of our students with disabilities and the commitment of their parents, teachers, and other professionals to the educational success of these children. Special Education Week falls under the umbrella of Abilities Awareness Month. Throughout the month of May, in support of our district's inclusive philosophy, all schools will be holding events highlighting the commonalities and differences among students and the strengths and talents all children possess.
The Governor’s Educator of the Year program is designed to highlight educational innovation, student achievement, the rewards of teaching, and the important services outside the classroom environment that lead to student success. The celebratory program integrates the Teacher of the Year Program with the Governor’s Teacher/Educational Services Professional Recognition Program to continue to recognize our state’s best teachers and educational services professionals.
Wayne Township Public School Teachers of the Year and Educational Services Professionals who received this recognition were honored at an annual luncheon for Passaic County districts at the Brownstone in Paterson last week.
It is with great excitement that the Wayne Township Public Schools announce the grand opening of Patriot Zone, a school-based store located at Wayne Hills High School, which is a purveyor of various items made by students who are enrolled in the Transition Skills Program, as well as standard office supplies. The Patriot Zone provides students with special needs an opportunity to solve real-world problems in a retail setting. It also offers a venue to showcase the creativity and capabilities of students in our school-based pre-vocational workshop. Please click here for the flyer and more details.
4th grade GATES students from James Fallon Elementary School enjoyed an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an inventor. They entered their original idea in this year’s STEAM Tank Competition, which is a competition that encourages students to use science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math skills. The competition was created and sponsored by the New Jersey School Board Association and U.S. Army. The James Falllon Elementary students were selected from 15 teams to participate in the Regional Competition held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark on April 14th. The students presented their idea for a “Cool Touch Plate” to a panel of judges including entrepreneurs, business leaders, and education leaders. Congratulations on a job well done to Max Carter, Evan Lim, Madeline MacDonald, and Dev Patel. A special thank you also goes out to Jaden Guzman for his help with the presentation.
Academic enrichment programs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all Wayne Township elementary students through the new Elementary Enrichment website. All students are encouraged to visit the Elementary Enrichment website and participate in the many challenges offered.
Sanjitha Reddy did just that. She took on one of the challenges and submitted her Lung Purifier invention to the Spark!Lab Dr. InBae Yoon Invent It Challenge. Sanjitha’s Lung Purifier invention is designed to help people breathe in areas where air pollution can be a problem, such as when a volcano erupts. Her invention earned her the title Honorable Mention Winner. Congratulations Sanjitha!
You can view Sanjitha’s invention, along with the other submissions on the Invent It website. Students should watch for information about next year’s Invent It Challenge on the Elementary Enrichment website in January.
