Dear Parents and Guardians of Middle School and High School Students:
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mark Toback, and I are sponsoring our annual "Community Forum - Drug Trends in our Community". This anti-drug initiative is specifically designed to provide parents and guardians of middle and high school students with updated information about the most current drug trends, including opiates and prescription drug abuse in our community and New Jersey. The Superintendent and I believe that effective communication and education can help Township residents to overcome this most challenging issue. I believe as your Mayor that this is the most important issue facing the young population of our community. For that reason, we strongly encourage you and your middle and high school aged children to attend this very important event. The "Community Forum - Drug Trends in Our Community" will be held on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Wayne Hills High School auditorium located at 272 Berdan Avenue.
Presentations will include:
Additionally, because we believe that your input is vital to the success of this program, there will be a question and answer period immediately following the presentations. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, May 8th at Wayne Hills.
Sincerely,
Christopher P. Vergano, Mayor
Mark Toback, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
The Wayne Township Police Department, in conjunction with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, will be holding the annual “Operation Take Back” prescription pill take back program in the lobby of Wayne Police Headquarters on Saturday April 28th, of 2018 from the hours of 10:00 (A.M.) to 2:00 (P.M.). This anonymous prescription pill take back initiative provides Wayne residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of any unwanted, unused and expired prescription medications in a safe manner. Only prescription pills will be collected. NO liquids and NO needles/syringes will be collected. We recommend that residents empty their unwanted pills from their containers and secure them into a plastic zip lock style bag prior to arriving at headquarters and depositing the pills into the collection box. For any questions, please contact Det. Sgt. James J. Celentano at 973-633-3550.

Over 50 elementary school teachers and principals took on the Harlem Magic Masters in this annual event sponsored by the Wayne Alliance. A great time was had by all!
On Wednesday, April 18th, Glen Ridge Public Schools' Director of Curriculum and Technology, Winnie Boswell, presented a student and teacher workshop on Google Explorations with the K-2 students at Randall Carter Elementary School. Using 3D virtual reality goggles and the Good Exploration program, students visited, explored, and discussed the moon, a safari, the depths of the ocean, Mayan ruins, and the San Diego Zoo. Students were able to move around these environments and get up close to the animals and habitats that they encountered. Teachers learned more about the program and began researching grant opportunities to bring this program to Randall Carter on a permanent basis for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you, Ms. Boswell for bringing the experience to Randall Carter Elementary School!
