ThoughtExchange

Friday, December 4th is the last day to submit your thoughts.

Dear WTPS Community:

The Wayne Board of Education supported a RESOLUTION AGAINST RACISM and further asserted that our school community shares a collective responsibility to reject all forms of individual and systemic racism as destructive to our educational mission, values, and goals. This was an incredibly important first step and the Board followed up their June resolution with the approval of a specific goal focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Now is the time for the community to get involved in advancing this goal. As we work toward a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally competent school system, your perspective is needed and valued. Please take a moment to participate in this important Thoughtexchange. While the District acknowledges that the past influences our present and future, we are focused on a Thoughtexchange that is forward-thinking. When sharing thoughts, please keep your focus on how we can work together to create a better future.

Sincerely,

Mark Toback

Superintendent of Schools

Wayne Valley High School Annual Food Drive

Led by Wayne Valley High School nurses, Anita Dispenziere and Suzanne Deutsch, their annual fall food drive at Wayne Valley High School was a great success! Due to COVID concerns, the format was changed from actual food item donations to store gift cards. WVHS's National Honor Society, Peer Leaders, Sports Teams, Staff and PTO all came together with a huge and generous response.

Handmade greeting cards and over $3,000 worth of food store gift cards were collected through the nurses' office. Thirty-five Wayne Schools families were identified to receive assistance for the Thanksgiving holiday and a large donation of gift cards was also given to the Wayne Interfaith Network (WIN) food pantry. A BIG thank you for all involved and Happy Holidays to all of our Wayne Families!

George Washington Middle School's 2020 Yearbook Featured in National Showcase

GWMS's 2020 yearbook titled, Keep it on the Level, is featured in the Showcase Collection of yearbooks from middle schools across the United States and Canada. It is the only yearbook from any schools in the Northeast to be included.

Tara Cooper Weiss, Library Media Specialist and Yearbook Adviser, said, "It is impossible to produce a yearbook of this caliber without the help of our school and community. I cannot thank George Washington Middle School's administrators, faculty, and school community enough for helping the students who go above and beyond to create each yearbook. In my mind, this is just another example of how GW is truly a "school to watch."
