The State of New Jersey dedicates the second week of May as Special Education Week. This week we recognize and celebrate the many achievements of our students with disabilities. Those students, along with their parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, related services providers, child study teams, and administrators are honored this week. We appreciate the Wayne School Community’s commitment to support what our students CAN DO!

On Wednesday, March 17th, Mrs. Heine’s fourth grade scientists at James Fallon Elementary School had a Virtual Visit from NBC Meteorologist Matt Brickman. Mr. Brickman presented an extremely interesting and engaging program to both cohorts A and B via Zoom.

The program utilized lessons created by the NBC 4 New York meteorologists and weather experts to offer a “real world” look at weather reporting for students. Matt Brickman demonstrated along with videos of his colleagues how they track and forecast local weather. The presentation also offered important guidance on staying safe in severe weather. Mr. Brickman allowed students to provide questions in advance that he adapted into his presentation as well as allowing ample time for students to ask questions at the end of his presentation.

Natural hazards are a part of the fourth grade curriculum. Matt Brickman’s introduction to tornadoes has provided excellent meteorological information for the students to help build their understanding of tornadoes, one of the many Natural Hazards that occur on our Earth.

Mrs. Heine stated, “This year, due to the pandemic, field trips, assemblies, and Outdoor Lab had to be put on hold for the safety of all of our students. I felt it was important to have some type of “outside” of school event for the students. While watching NBC, I was informed that their meteorologist provides virtual visits to schools. These visits engage students in weather related lessons with visual demonstrations to enhance student learning. I felt this was a wonderful way to engage students in a grade level program where all students could be “in one place”. Every student enjoyed this wonderful educational experience."

Return to School Survey - Senior Students
On June 2, 2021, Wayne Township Public Schools will be combining cohorts for all Senior students at Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High School. Senior students will have the opportunity to return to school in full, attending each day that school is in session through the end of the school year.
This form must be submitted by all senior parents prior to 12:00 pm on Monday, May 17, 2021. Please be aware that failure to complete this form will result in your child being designated as a virtual student for the remainder of the school year.
Please recognize that, upon submitting this form, your student will be committed to the instructional format selected below (in-person or virtual) for the remainder of the school year starting on June 2.
It is also important that you are aware that social distancing may not be possible based upon the amount of students that return on June 2.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Middle School and High School Students:
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mark Toback, and I are sponsoring our annual “Community Forum”. This anti-drug initiative is specifically designed to provide parents and guardians of middle and high school students with updated information about the most current drug trends including opiates and prescription drug abuse in our community and New Jersey. The Superintendent and I believe that effective communication and education can help Township residents to overcome this most challenging issue. I believe as your Mayor that this is the most important issue facing the young population of our community. For that reason, we strongly encourage you and your middle and high school aged children to attend this very important event.
The year’s “Community Forum” is graciously sponsored by the Wayne Education Association and the Wayne Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse. The forum will be held on Monday, May 17th, 2021 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Wayne Valley High School auditorium located at 551 Valley Road and will also be live streamed for virtual viewing.

Memorial Day Weekend Update
The Board of Education adopted a calendar for the 2020-2021 school year, which incorporates four emergency days in the schedule. To date, we have used two of those days. As a result, we will have an expanded Memorial Day break.
Please be advised that if we have no additional emergency school closings prior to May 28th, school will be closed on Friday, May 28th and Tuesday, June 1st , as well as the scheduled Memorial Day, which is on Monday, May 31st.
School will resume on Wednesday, June 2nd.
