No Place for Hate Spotlight: Pajama Palooza Story Time at Theunis Dey
On the evening of March 1st, the Theunis Dey community kicked off their "Read Across America Week" with a live streamed Pajama Palooza Story Time. Principal, Ms. Jadick; School Counselor, Mrs. Valencia; Reading Specialist, Mrs. Sponenburg; and Media Specialist, Mrs. DelloBuono collaborated and read books to students while wearing pajamas in the comfort of their homes from a wide variety of authors. Students were encouraged to find their favorite reading spot, wear their pajamas and celebrate reading with their families.
This year, Theunis Dey celebrated with a virtual library that cultivated compassion and celebrated a nation of diverse readers. Students had the opportunity to listen to read alouds from many different cultures and discuss whether the book represented a window for them to look into someone else’s world or whether the book was a mirror that reflected themselves. The events during this week were intended to recognize and understand that the world is far richer than just our experiences alone.

APT Elementary Students Host Live Cooking Class
APT Students have been hard at work in their Google Classrooms and in the kitchen! Fifth Grade teacher, Beth DeMayo, has been allowing students with a flare for the culinary arts to host live cooking and baking classes during their 20-minute snack-time once a week. Cooking demos are a fun break for students who are attending school virtually and are interested in learning how to cook and bake. Cooking classes also help teach valuable math and life skills! Students in Ms. DeMayo's class have had the opportunity to learn how to make sugar cookies, chicken alfredo, cupcakes, and blueberry muffins.

State Special Education Advisory Council Seeking Parents and Advocates
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is requesting assistance in identifying parents and advocates to sit on the State Special Education Advisory Council (SSEAC) beginning in September 2021. The purpose of the SSEAC is to provide guidance on special education and related services to the Commissioner of Education. Members of the SSEAC are appointed by the State Board of Education in accordance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and state statute (N.J.S.A. 18A:46-2). The SSEAC must consist of a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of 15 members. Additionally, one half of the members must be either parents of a child with a disability or persons with a disability. Potential members must identify with one or more of the 15 categories outlined by the federal guidelines. These categories are listed on the membership application. Regional representation is also considered.

Please go to the district website to FAMILY LINKS > REGISTRATION (or CLICK HERE) between February 1st and February 19, 2021, to complete the online registration, which is the first part of the registration process. Your school secretary will contact you to complete the next portion of the process once the online portion has been submitted and required documentation has been uploaded. Please have all required documentation ready prior to completing the online form.
