Well done to Otters wo had an excellent attendance of 97.3% last week.
Woodpeckers came in 2nd place again with a very creditable 96.3% and Butterflies were hot on their heels with 95%.
The weekly attenadnce graphic is showing the cumulative attendance figures for the year. Hedgehogs are leading the way with 95.9%.
We had a really great dat on Friday with our classes learning all about significant black people from history.
Grasshoppers were learning about Floella Benjamin, who travelled to England as part of the Windrush Generation and learnt about her experiences of racism at the time.
Hedgehogs were learning all about Alma Thomas, a famous African-American artist who created brilliantly colored and richly patterned works of abstract art.
Foxes were learning about Mary Seacole. She was a contemporary of Florence Nightingale as a nurse in the Crimean War, but lost to history for most of the last century and only now credited for the work that she did.
Otters were finding out about Barack Obama, the first black President of the USA and learnt about the historical issues or slavery and civil rights that set the backdrop to him becoming the leader of the US.
And Woodpeckers were learning all about Rosa Parks and her significant stand against discrimination that played such a key part in the civil rights movement.
Today we had an assembly and learnt about Betty Campbell who was Wales's first black Headteacher. Having overcome discrimination as a black person and a woman, she achieved her dream of becoming a teacher and went on to lead her school in Wales pioneering the teaching of Black History.
Not only did we have the Reverend Rachel come and see Grasshoppers to talk about Baptism, But Miss Allouche also popped down from Hedgehogs to share some parts of the islamic Aqiqah ceremony to celebrate a child's birth. We thank them both for giving up their time to share with us all about these special events in a child's life.
Thank you to everyone who donated to our harvest collection. The foodbank came on Thursday and wanted me to express their thanks to all our families.
Our Parent Consultations are next week on Wednesday and Thursday after school. Please see your child's teacher or another member of the class team at drop-off / pick-up to sign up for a time.
