MENTAL HEALTH
"Mental health is a combination of our thoughts and feelings which, if positive, enables us to be happy and cope with life's stresses and challenges."

MORAL PURPOSE
Walker Riverside Academy is passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people. At Walker we encourage all to Aim High, Be Proud, and Love Life through being:
► Compassionate - We show understanding and concern for those around us,
► Resilient - We strive to find solutions to the challenges we face,
► Responsible - We are honest and take responsibility for our own actions,
► Collaborative - We recognise trusting relationships are key to achieving success, and
► Ambitious - We endeavour to achieve our very best; at the Academy, at home and within our community.
Following our values and ethos we strive to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. We strive to achieve this through prioritising the wellbeing of students and staff to ensure that outstanding teaching and learning can take place, and that the school is a community where everyone feels safe, respected and able to thrive.
INCLUSION AND EFFECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH
Inclusion and effective mental health interventions means:
► The child stays at the centre of every conversation.
► We prioritise those who need our help most, but we intervene with all.
► When young people are here, we can support and educate them – attendance matters.
► Young people learn best when there are clear rules and simple consequences.
► Staff teach best when there are clear rules and simple consequences.
► We use evidence-based practice for all our interventions.
INTENT
At Walker Riverside Academy we are here to promote positive attitudes and behaviours towards mental health and wellbeing. This we will work towards by developing the protective factors which build resilience to mental health problems and to be a school where:
→ All students are valued.
→ Students have a sense of belonging and feel safe.
→ Students feel able to talk openly with trusted adults about their problems without feeling any stigma.
→ Positive mental health is promoted and valued.
→ Bullying is not tolerated in support of our 'No Bystanders' pledge.
