Make Canvas Accessible
Make your Canvas course as accessible as possible with these tips!
Why? For students with disabilities, it is difficult to constantly have to ask for and get the accommodations they need to follow their studies appropriately. Accommodations they have the right to receive. How great would it be if every Canvas course is automatically catered to include every student? That way, these students don't need to ask for extra help and teachers don't need to change anything during the course. A win-win. Follow these tips to make this possible!
Use Canvas accessibility functions. Canvas has a few accessibility tools to help make your courses accessible:
Screen reader. Students with visual impairments can use the screen reader to read Canvas pages out loud.
Accessibility checker. When you edit a page, you can use the Accessibility checker to help you find problems students might face.
Make your Canvas courses as readable as possible for everyone:
Describe images with alternative text.
Use descriptive text for hyperlinks.
Use tables to structure information.
Make audiovisual material understandable for everyone:
Activate subtitles on videos.
Use colours visible for students who are colour blind.
