If you experience a technical issue with your computer, please submit a request using the link below. Be sure to include details about the issue you’re experiencing. Submitting requests through the web portal allows for faster response times and improved tracking, helping us assist you more efficiently.
Open the web browser of your choice and navigate to: https://support.hume.vt.edu/. Log in using your VTNSI credentials.
On your first login, you will be guided through a brief tutorial. Once completed, you will be presented with two options for submitting your ticket: IT or Facilities.
From there, select the option that best fits your needs. For today’s example, we’ll use IT Helpdesk. You will then be taken to the home page, where you can view announcements, track your requests (open, pending, or closed), and access the various request types available.
If you are experiencing an issue, click “Report an Issue.” Complete the subject and description fields, attach any relevant files if needed, and click “Add Request.”
You may also choose “Request a Service.” The IT team offers a wide range of services through this portal.
Available services include, but are not limited to: data recovery via system backups (if your system is enrolled), new desktop or laptop requests, workstation relocations, email distribution lists, phone requests, SharePoint sites and Microsoft Teams requests, software, and system access.
New request types will be added as trends and needs emerge. If you do not see a request type that fits your needs, you may submit a request to have a new one added.
The Support Portal also includes a “Solutions” page that provides helpful articles and guidance on a variety of topics. This content is continually expanding, and suggestions for additional topics are always welcome.
A standard set of office productivity software is already installed on your computer, which includes Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Drive for Desktop, Chrome web browser, and Adobe Reader/Acrobat depending on your job needs.
If you require additional software to accomplish job related tasks, be sure to check ServiceNow Software Search Tool and the Departmental Software List to determine if the software you wish to purchase has already been reviewed or is available for purchase from the VT Software Service Center.
Please submit a Bizops request for software.
Request steps:
The requestor submits a BizOps request for software.
Finance will assign the request to IT.
IT will complete the department order form on behalf of the requestor, including the operating system.
A license agreement must be associated with all software purchases. The end user receiving the software is responsible for signing the license agreement.
IT enters the purchase request in HokieMart.
Rationale:
IT reviews all software requests to confirm whether existing institute licenses can be leveraged.
Software purchases under $10,000 qualify as low-risk, low-cost per Procurement guidance.
If the license cannot be purchased on a PO, IT must email nsifinance@vt.edu to have the purchase completed on a P-Card. P-Card purchases are allowed under $2,000 unless prior approval is obtained.
In HokieMart:
Enter the Service Now ticket number for low-risk, low-cost purchases.
Use account code 22188.
Review Procurement guidance.
Employees with the requirement to work remotely must sign paperwork for "home use" that will specify the equipment they will be responsible for. Details regarding work hours and efforts during authorized closing will be guided by policy and arranged with your supervisor.

The new VPN client should appear as displayed in this image.
Note: If you don't see the application on your system, you can install it from the "Self Service Portal" in your start menu or create a ticket to https://support.hume.vt.edu. Open Cisco Secure Client and choose the option of “All Traffic” or “VT Traffic”.
Once you select an option and click “Connect” you will be redirected to a web page that prompts you for your VT credentials.
