We welcome you to VTNSI! The employee manual is designed to share more about the organization as you get settled!
Each university department and institute is responsible for a host of onboarding tasks at the department level (i.e. equipment, desk, mailbox, keys). The VTNSI team is here to assist you in getting settled in and to guide you to the appropriate points of contact for additional support.
Before arriving, you should have completed many onboarding tasks in the PageUp applicant system, to include scheduling a New Employee Orientation session. The Human Resources orientation session is very important as you will learn about selecting a health care plan, retirement options, and more. Please be sure to attend! If you have any issues with your scheduled appointment, you may contact hrservicecenter@vt.edu.
At VTNSI, we are committed to sustaining our rapid growth and continuously seeking talented faculty and staff. To expand personnel, please submit a Request to Hire form for HR and leadership review. When prepared to make an offer, please submit the same form.
There are several types of faculty positions at Virginia Tech. To learn more about each type and associated benefits, please visit the Virginia Tech Faculty Handbook.
Supervisors and employees should monitor training and progress through the Learning Management System.
Employees should receive emails directly from the system when training is required.
All recruiting actions are routed through nsihr@vt.edu.
Guidance on position descriptions, recruitment, record retention, and on/offboarding actions will be provided for vacant positions.
In compliance with Policy 4325, Alternate Work Site and Telework Policy, a telework agreement should be on file if this applies to you, and in agreement with your supervisor.
Please review Human Resources guidance on telework arrangements.
Why your current address is important:
With the increase of fully remote and hybrid work opportunities for Virginia Tech employees, it is imperative the university have accurate information on where employees are physically performing work in order to comply with state income taxes, unemployment claims, and employment laws. The current addresses reported in Banner do not always align with physical working locations. For example:
An employee’s mailing address may not be the same as their remote work location. Someone may receive mail at a P.O. Box, but that means the physical address where they perform work is not documented in our systems.
Students could have an out-of-state mailing address but will be physically working on campus in Virginia.
The administrative office address, which is the main address for the college or department an employee is assigned to, may be different than the physical office location where the employee works.
