The most important fact I learned about plastics and microplastics is that they are hard to break down and they can stay on earth for hundreds of years in the environment, it's also very ordinary, it can be found everywhere on Earth. Large plastic items will not disappear, it will brreak down to tiny pieces called microplastics, which are always smaller than 5mm. These particles can be found everywhere in the oceans, rivers, soil, food, even in the air we are breathing. I'm surprised the most by that microplastics can enter the food chain, some small animals like plankton and fish might accidentally eat them, and larger animals can consume these organisms. This means that microplastics can move through the ecosystems and eventually reach to us. The project helped me realize that plastic pollution is not only problems we saw like litters on beaches, it also had hidden problems that affects the worldwide. Reducing single use plastic, recycle properly abd make enviromental friendly choice can help to decrease the amount of platic entering the environment.
The most important fact I learned about biodiversity is that every species plays a role to keep the ecosystem healthy and balance. Biodiversity refers to all these variety of living organisms like plants animals, fungi, and microorganisms. Greater biodiveristy in an ecosysrem means the ecosystem is more stable and resilient that it's tends to be. One example is the relationship between the pollinators and the plants. Bees and other pollinators help plants to reproduce which supported the food production and also provides habitats for other species. If one essential species disappear, it can also affect many other organisms depends on it. This shows how living things are connected to each other in the ecological realtionship. I also learned that biodiversity benefit humans in many ways. Like it provides food, medicine and clean water, also some natural resources. Healthy ecosystem can somehow help to regulate the climate, reduce floods, and also support the agriculture. But human activities like habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, and invasive species can threaten the biodiversity in the world. This project taught me that protecting the biodiveristy is very important and not only just for wildlife, it's also for our well being. By conserving habitats and use resources responsibly we can help maintain a healthy ecosystem for our future generation.
