Power Within

An art-based healing and empowerment programme by Yesense Community Interest Company

Power Within is a creative wellbeing project developed by Yesense CIC to help people rebuild emotional strength, process trauma and rediscover their sense of self through art. It was born from lived experience of displacement and recovery, and offers a safe, gentle and inclusive space for expression and connection.

The programme is designed primarily for refugees and people who have lived through traumatic experiences. Using visual arts, music, poetry and tactile materials, participants are supported to express emotions that may be too difficult to put into words. Each session invites creative exploration — from painting and foil modelling to neurographic drawing and fabric sculpture — allowing participants to reflect, release and rebuild.

Over twelve weeks, the group meets regularly to learn creative techniques, share experiences and gradually transform pain into expression. Alongside group workshops, participants receive one-to-one support, helping them apply what they discover in everyday life. 

The project nurtures confidence, belonging and emotional resilience. It helps individuals regain a sense of control, develop practical coping tools, and reconnect with community. Through creative work and reflection, participants rediscover personal resources that may have felt lost.
