The science activity for your final week is to create a magnet maze game!
You will need:
A piece of A4 card
A felt tip pen
A metal paperclip
A magnet
The activity is simple...
Draw a maze on your card using the felt tip pen. Mark the beginning and end of the maze and be sure to include lots of dead ends for people to avoid!
Place the paper clip on top of the card at the beginning of the maze.
Hold the card up and put the magnet underneath so that it attaches to the paper clip. Then pull the paperclip around the maze to the end.
Challenge your family. Can they beat your magnet maze?
Click the presentation on the left to learn all about magnet poles. There are activities involving magnets which you can do if you have some at home. If not, there are videos to watch and then you can complete the worksheet below. (Either print out or write directly into your work books.)
Click on the presentation to the left to help you understand all about Magnets and magnetic and non-magnetic materials. There is an investigation on the presentation that uses iron filings. You can ignore this part and move on to the main challenge.
The main challenge is to find things around your home and test them to see if they are magnetic or non-magnetic. If you don't have a magnet at home, discuss with an adult which items you think would be magnetic and why.
There is also a sheet mention on the presentation. I have not added this to the site, magnetic and non-magnetic items can either be sorted into piles at home or written directly into work books.
Click on the presentation to the left to help you understand all about going faster and slower because of friction. There is an investigation on the presentation that you may not have all of the materials for at home but if you can, try to set up your own friction experiment using materials you do have at home. (You could see the difference between riding your bike on concrete or grass for example. ) If you don't have anything at home to set up an investigation you could just make prediction based on the investigation from the presentation.
Click on the presentation to the left to help you understand all about push and pull forces. There are several worksheets and activities mentioned in the presentation. You don't need to complete all of these, the presentation is just to help you understand the topic.
Below there is a worksheet you may wish to complete. You can either print this out or write your answers straight into your workbooks.
