Keep up with your spellings
Here are some words that you should learn in year 3 and 4.
You could choose 6-10 of these to work on each week. Don't try to tackle them all at once but do keep going back and checking you can still remember how to spell them.

ConjunctionsConjunctions are used to join to parts of a sentence (Clauses.)
There are different types of conjunctions, coordinating, subordinating and correlative.
Coordinating conjunctions are conjunctions that links to parts of a sentence that are equally important. (They make sense on their own.)
e.g Sarah went to the park and she went to the shops.
Subordinating conjunctions are conjunctions that link two parts of a sentence, where one part is less important than the other. (One doesn't make sense on its own.)
e.g Sarah went to the shops because she was hungry.
Correlative Conjunctions are conjunctions that are used in pairs.
e.g Sarah said she wanted both chocolate and vanilla ice cream for pudding.
Noun or Verb
A Noun is a name of something. e.g table, pencil, gift, hat
A verb is an action e.g ran, jump, talked, walk,
Sometimes a word can be both and it can get a little confusing...
For example... You can present your work nicely. (This is a verb because it is an action you have done.)
or
You can give someone a present. (This is a noun because it is the name of something.)

Indefinite Article
Should you be using 'a' or 'an' ?
Remember...
If the word starts with a vowel sound you should use 'an'
For example: 'an ant' or 'an hour'
If the word starts with a consonant sound you should use 'a'
For example: 'a book' or 'a shed'
Identifying Adverbs
Adverbs are words to describe a verb.
For example: In the sentence....
'Sarah walked slowly over to him.'
The word 'slowly' is the adverb because it describes how Sarah walked.
Remember: a verb is an action word. An an adverb describes that word.
For example; In the sentence...
'John lifted the huge box carefully through the door.'
The word carefully is the adverb (not huge) because 'carefully' describe the verb (lifted.)

Was or Were
Should you be using was or were?
Remember...
If it is singular (just one) you should use the word 'was.'
If it is plural (more than one) you should use the word 'were.'
For example:
She was going to the park.
They were playing with a ball.
('She' means one person -singular.)
('They' means more than one person - plural.)
