Click on the power point to learn all about VE day. Then scroll down to find learning activities for this week.
Here is a reading comprehension all about VE day. (Click the image.) This is a great way to learn all about VE day before you write your letter.
Remember you can print this if it is easier for you but you don't need to. You can read it online and answer the questions directly into your workbook from school .
There are 3 reading comprehensions all on the same document. Don't do them all. look at the stars at the bottom of each page. 1 star is easiest and 3 stars is hardest. Pick whichever suits you!
Time to write a letter!
It's 1945 so there's no e-mail, no text messages and no skype calls. To tell your friends and family all about VE day you need to write them a letter.
Imagine you are either a soldier returned home in time for the VE celebrations or an ordinary citizen already at home. Write to a friend or relative to tell them all about the VE day celebrations.
How did you feel when you heard that victory had been declared? Did you hear Winston Churchill's speech on the wireless? - How did it make you feel? What are people around you doing to celebrate VE day? Is there a street party going on? Describe the decorations and the food!
Get ready for a VE Day street party with these activities!
Union Jack Bunting
If you can, print off this union jack bunting and colour it in.
If you can't print don't worry. Cut some paper into triangles and copy the union jack design onto it, then colour in.
When you're done you could stick them to some string to hang or stick them up around the house!
Lets get baking!
What better way to celebrate VE day than with a classic Victoria sponge!
There are lots of recipes online, take a look and have a go at making a sponge.
Design a commemorative teacup
You can use this worksheet to help you design a commemorative VE day teacup! This is the perfect activity for us here in Stoke-on-Trent!
Print out the sheet if you wish but you can always draw a teacup yourself then add the design. (That way you can change the shape of the cup too!)
Get Arty!
Why not design a VE day celebration poster or piece of artwork and hang it in the window of your home? I know many of you have been hanging rainbows in your window and i think this would be a lovely idea for Friday! I'm sure the people in your neighbourhoods would love to see your artwork.
It could be a lovely way to celebrate together from a distance.
For your RE learning activity this week. Why not write a prayer of thanks for the soldiers of WWII and all of those who have suffered due to war.
