You may have forgotten over half term exactly what we've been doing so your first task is to remind yourself of what we did lat time and read through your work.
Next, its time to write the third paragraph of your review. This paragraph should be all about the characters in your book. who are they? what is their personality like? What do they look like? What do you like or dislike about them? Make sure you use your plan!
It's time to write the next paragraph of your review (and probably the most important one,) this paragraph should be about how the book made you feel. Did you enjoy it? why/why not? did it make you laugh or feel sad? Make sure you use your plan.
It s time to write the very last paragraph. This is only a short paragraph but it's an important one. Here you should give the book a star rating! How many stars would you give it out of 5? Why have you given it this many stars? What could make it better? And the finally would you recommend it to anybody and who would you recommend it to?
(Remember to use your plan!)
So you've finished the writing but now comes the really important bit! It's time to edit. Read through what you have written and check to see if it makes sense first of all. Have you skipped any words or repeated yourself? Then make sure the spelling and punctuation is up to scratch, no missing capital letters and full stops!
Today's task is to read your favourite book! (Or the first part of it at least) As you go, make some jottings. What do you like about it? What are the best bits? Is it funny? Spooky? Sad? Is there anything you don't like about it? Do you find parts of it boring? Why? Are theere any illustrations?
Find somewhere comfy to snuggle up and read and make some notes as you go.
You can choose any book you like, its totally up to you. If you're completely stuck for ideas why not head over to our school facebook page and listen to Mrs Wilson read you Fantastic Mr Fox and write about that!
Today's task is exactly the same as yesterday. If you haven't finished reading your book keep going and keep making notes! A good piece of advice is every time your book makes you feel something, make a note of it. Did it make you laugh? Did it make you feel scared?
Now you have read your book it's time to plan your review. (If you haven't finished reading don't worry keep going and take your time!)
Use the worksheet to the right to help you plan your review. (If you can't print don't worry. Just look at the sheet online and make your notes and do your planning on some plain paper.) Just remember to think about all the things on the sheet. What is the plot? (what happens?) Who is the main character and what are they like? How did the book make you feel?
Begin today by writing your title and first paragraph. Your title could be... A review of (put the name of your book here.)
Your first paragraph should be a short summary of what happens in the book. (The Plot) Use your plan to help you Tell the reader what happens in the book. Remember the goal of a book review is to get the person to read the book you've read so try not to give away the ending. Maybe just give a hint about whether its a happy ending or not! Here's a sentence you can magpie. Give this book a read to find out what happens in the end!
The task today is to write the next paragraph for your book review.
Talk about the setting of your book. Describe it to the reader and tell them what you liked or disliked about it. This doesn't need to be a long paragraph but make sure you use some good descriptive words and phrases.
This day by day breakdown is just a guide. Spend as long as you need to on these tasks. Depending on the size of your book this task will take you a different amount of time so don't worry about sticking to it too closely.
