Award Winning YCV

Yaxley Countryside Volunteers founder wins award

The Yaxley Countryside Volunteers were formed nearly 40 years ago by Reg Bingham and a group of friends. Ever since then they have been improving the environment of Yaxley for local residents and local wildlife.

In September our Chairman and founder Reg Bingham received a BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Make A Difference Award at a ceremony in Peterborough Cathedral.

Reg won the Green Award which goes to “ An individual or group of people who help to make where we live more environmentally friendly and better for nature”.

The award is well deserved for Reg and the work he has done with YCV in making Yaxley a better place to live over the last 40 years.

As winter approaches YCV will continue the work Reg started all those years ago. We will be planting spring bulbs in the Recreation Ground and at Pound Lane Pond. We shall also be renovating and installing bird boxes – in particular for the swifts for when they return next year.
