YCV in the community

Yaxley Countryside Volunteers are involved in working with the wider community in Yaxley. We have recently been planting trees in the grounds at the front of William de Yaxley school. These ornamental cherry trees will provide interest for the children as they mature with beautiful flowers each spring. The trees will help develop biodiversity around the school as the blossom will attract insects and the fruit will be food for birds in autumn. They will become a visual delight to everyone who passes them in spring on their way to the shops as well as teachers, parents and pupils at the school.

We recently used the excellent workshop facilities at the Yaxley Hobby Hub for a session making habitat boxes. YCV are very keen to support the swifts who return to the village every year and a focus was on making more swift boxes to go up on local homes. As well as swift boxes we made nest boxes for garden birds and bats.

If you would like to help out the swifts by having a box on your house please do get in touch.

On Friday April 26th it is National Orchard Blossom Day and the Community Orchard will be open in the afternoon for you to come and have a look round. There are a wide variety of different fruit trees in the orchard and by visiting on blossom day you will be able to see the flowers close up and to smell their delightful fragrance.

If you would like to help us look after the environment and wildlife in Yaxley please do get in touch:
