Apples Apples Apples……
Yaxley Countryside Volunteers are once again celebrating the season of ‘mellow fruitfulness’ in the Community Orchard……
Apple Day returns on Saturday Oct 18th
The Community Orchard has over 80 different trees to be seen – including traditional and commercial varieties of apples, pears, damsons and plums plus walnuts, hazelnuts and even rhubarb. There are rarer types of fruit such as quince and medlar and we are also experimenting with figs and apricots.
The orchard will be open from 11.00 am – 3.00 pm and there will also be activities, displays and demonstrations in the Owen Pooley Hall. Can you name that fruit? Get the apple in the bucket? Like to sample some produce from the orchard or freshly pressed apple juice? Come and have a go at the activities such as the leaf printing workshop.
If you have questions about looking after fruit trees, how to do pruning, need ideas for using and preserving produce then do come and see us. We manage the orchard for the benefit of wildlife too so if you would like to find out more about helping wildlife in your garden then we will be happy to help.
Come rain or shine we will have something for you to see or do on the day.
The Community Orchard is in Middletons Road Recreation Ground near the pond and skate ramps and we hope to see you there..
If you would like to help us look after the orchard or help us with our projects around the village please do get in touch:
