"That's how we should treat all these maniacs. We cannot let decent people go up to our beards." My father already said it! You want grapes? Well, he's coming in for grapes. Yeah, yeah! A fat, glossy cat runs through the tables; a cat full of health and well-being; a gorgeous and presumptuous cat. He gets into a lady's legs, and the lady stands out. - Cat the devil! Get away from here! The man of history smiles sweetly to him.
"But, ma'am, poor cat!" What harm did he do to you? A young man in the middle of the barracks makes poems. He's evaded, he doesn't realize anything; it's the only way to be able to make beautiful verses. If he looked to the sides, his inspiration would escape. That of inspiration must be like a butterfly blind and deaf, but very bright; otherwise, not much would be explained.
The young poet is composing a long poem, which is called "Destiny". He had his doubts as to whether he should put "The Destiny", but at the end, and after consulting with some already done poets, he thought no, that it would be better to title it "Destiny", simply. It was simpler, more evocative, more mysterious. Moreover, thus, calling it "Destiny," it became more suggestive, more... how would we say, more imprecise, more poetic. Thus it was not known whether it was meant to refer to "the fate", or "a destiny", to "uncertain destiny," to "fatal destiny" or "happy fate," or "blue destiny"; or "violated destiny". "Destiny" tied more, left less room for the imagination to fly in freedom, disconnected from all obstructions.
The young poet had been working on his poem for months. It already had three hundred and a dozen verses, a carefully drawn pattern of the future edition and a list of possible subscribers, to whom, at their own time, a newsletter would be sent, if they wanted to cover it. I had already chosen the type of printing (a simple type, of course, classical; a type that could be read with ease; let's say, a bodoni), and had already drafted the justification of the printing. Two doubts, however, still tormented the young poet: whether or not to put the "Laus Deo" finishing the column, and whether to write the biographical note for the cover for himself, or not for himself.
