I've made a lot of progress in writing this song since last weeks session, I've come up with a bridge and a pre chorus for Stick With It that I'm happy with, you can hear it now with this youtube link!
Progressions made since last session:
Bridge lyrics and chords:
Am G Em Am
"When you go home, and face reality,
F G Em Am
Do you think to yourself, 'What have i done?'
F G
I bet you don't, i bet you won't."
Going into the next songwriting session my plan was to start writing a bridge and a pre chorus using a different chord pattern to the verse I had already written previously. The song doesn't consist of the most complicated chords or lyrics but neither do a lot of my favourite songs which are some of the best out there. The inspiration I have taken for this song is from the early Arctic Monkeys and Courteeners songs where they wrote about their antics, stories and tales from their short relationships as teens, they put these into simple and catchy songs as part of their early work.
Thought process:
The thought behind the chord structure of this bridge was due to the fact I knew I needed to add a bridge to the song before the chorus came in. I had wanted to add a minor chord as the song has a darker twist to the story despite the title of the song. I also wanted to keep the chords fairly simple and similar to the chords in the verse, this was to make the song in keep with the influences of the creation and also because I didn't want to end up getting carried away and then making it too complicated.
The lyrics in this new bridge are hypothetical for me, but it could resonate with someone else's experiences in a relationship. The lyrics "when you go home and face reality" is a nod towards a girl or a boy that regrets their actions the next day or as soon as they get home, when they're in real life and not in a dream world anymore. The lyrics may not look like anything special when they are typed out but on a recording they flow very well in the melody in my opinion. I hope you like the song so far!
Musician career role link:
Since the start of my blog writing process I have really enjoyed this particular section, which is my songwriting goal. I have tried to put myself in the shoes of a professinal songwriter which consists of waking up at sensible time with a clear head and dedicating some time to focus on putting together this song which has turned out to be 'Stick With It'.
