This week I have contacted 'Snake Oil Music News' who are active on all social media platforms, especially facebook and instagram. They put on live music events, share music reviews for new artists like myself and try to give the music as much publicity as they can. On friday evenings at 7pm they get bands to join them on a live video on instagram for an interview, they started this in lockdown and they call it Fr-isolation club. And so on friday 14th May I'll be going live on instagram for an interview to talk all about the EP and play a couple songs from it, hopefully this will reach some new fans.
Networking
For some publicity on instagram I have reached out to an old friend of mine who runs a successful vintage clothing resale site called 'Baggy Boys'. I made the proposition of buying a couple of items off his site and then I'll model the pieces and in return they would share my pictures and give my EP a shout out. This could potentially get some interest from different audiences and get numbers of streams and pump my social media activity up.
Muzak Review (instagram account) have agreed to give my EP a review on their social media accounts, they have a good following online so this is another great bit of publicity for '2020 EP'.
I've thought of ways to try and connect and with my ideal target audience and a great way to attract new fans is through Tik Tok. It's by far the biggest social media platform of the last year or so and it's perfect for capturing the attention of indie music lovers. I've started posting covers of popular songs from similar genres to my music and using trending and relevant music hashtags. My plan initially was to reel off some covers onto my account and develop some interest from followers then to introduce my solo music in clips as the numbers on my account creep up.
I have contacted a few promotion and management companies via email and instagram direct message as most of these accounts are active on there. The three I have been in touch with in particular are
'Sucker Promotions and Management'
'I'm not from London'
'Scruff of the Neck'
I have contacted these companies as my music is suited to their style and fits in with their roster of bands. I have worked with 'Sucker' before so I'm hopeful we can organise some live gigs together in different cities. They manage a few bands and I'm hoping to join their management band 'DECO' on their next tour.
I've approached Scruff of the neck who are mainly based in Manchester but they promote gigs all over the country. They manage bands and artists in the indie/ alternative genre which is what genre my music falls under. I've sent them a formal email letting them know about my new project and my keen interest to gig with a promotion of theirs. I'm really interested in getting involved with their latest project at their headquarters in Manchester. They've been live streaming bands exclusively on 'Twitch' which is a new live stream site, the bands have full set ups and it's mixed professionally and it's all being done from their office space.
With the help of my mother who is a part time Artist, we have made some lyric sheets to '2020 Vision', I'm planning on doing the same for '30 Days' and 'Stick with It'. The plan for these is to raffle them off through my instagram page in a little competition, my thoughts were for the first 10 people to like and share my advertising post on instagram they get a free lyric sheet to a song of their choice from the EP. It's just for a bit of fun and they're quite cool to keep and to look back on one day. The drawing is of from a picture when I was performing in my hometown of Burton on Trent. If people like this idea I would like to continue it and sell them at my gigs when they return.
