This week i made an attempt at my goal in writing and composing a whole song. After the song idea i had last week i've decided to start fresh and brush that idea aside, I came to this decision because in the week I came up with a whole new song idea and I preffered this a lot more. This song is perfect for a solo artist to play on the acoustic guitar, i will eventually use this song for the next part of the project at college which is Solo EP.
Elements of the song:
Guitar:
The song starts with a capo on the 5th Fret, and begins with the basic chord progression of C, F and G throughout the verses. In my opinion the verse has a good, solid and flowing melody straight from the off. The feeling of the chord progression so far is positive and happy, but because of the nature of the lyrics i plan on adding some minor chords to give it a twist to show it's a delicate subject and minor chords have a meaningful effect, which is what i want to emphasise in my song.
Lyrics:
I had the chord progression before i started trying to write any lyrics, so that definitely helped the words i was experimenting with come out and form the verse melody. The lyrics i have wrote down were the first few sentences i came up with. The song is actually about a personal experience of mine and i can still picture in my head what happened so i'm trying to get that out on paper in the form of words. I'm excited to my next songwriting session and to hopefully get down what i want to say about the story and the outcome of it ,stay tuned for my next blog post when the song has more structure and lyrics!
Targets for next songwriting session:
Write a pre chorus and bridge with different chords to the existing ones in the first two verses.
If successful with a chord change and a pre chorus move onto writing a chorus, if not make it a priority for a later session.
" I could tell by the way you looked at me,
that it was never, it was never gonna be.
You just seem to fancy all the older lads,
and when they don't like you back it makes you rather sad."
