30 Days is a short, simple, snappy but catchy song, in my opinion. Again like 2020 Vision, I wanted it to come across as a bit of a story, I can try and shed some light on it for you all now. " Let's take it back 30 days" this is literally saying 30 days ago everything was fine and good and not the mess that is now happening, well when I was writing it. Sorry about this but it's about a girl again, we never really got it right but it could have been really great as we got on so well but things got in the way and I ended up messing it up. A little while after it ended and I was a little upset I put it all down to paper and the verses came really fast to me. I think of you're writing about something that's really relevant or familiar it will come so much more naturally. There are a few true things in the song, for example "your friends said I should have bought you roses", her friends did actually say this to me and so I remembered that and put it in, I'm glad i was able to do that as it shows the song is genuine. Another relevant part of the song is the lyrics about "living in the month of last may", this was the time i wish we could go back to. I apologise for the use of bad language in the 2nd verse, but I did see her new boyfriend out one night and I took note of his haircut and I thought I'd add it into the song, I was obviously a little jealous so I didn't want to make him sound great, hence my comment about his personality, that was quite low really, sorry mate.
The chord progression is really good for the song and everything flows really nicely in my opinion. The chord pattern for the verse is rather simple but it's got some hammer ons in there and spices it up a bit so it doesn't sound too plain. The melody of the verse goes up and down and is fun to sing along to, I thinl this is because of the chords when it goes to a quick A to E after the D, you'll be able to tell what I mean when you watch the video. I thought if I'd played the whole song in the tempo the first verse is in then people might get a bit bored so i added a tempo change and i really like it, especially when it's played with the band. The structure of the song isn't the most complex so i wanted to do something different in the song without going off on a tangent, so I thought i'd slow the song write down and have a breakdown. When i did this i just started playing the root notes of A, E, D, A, E and i really enjoyed it so I was happy to add it in and it was a little different to what i've done in my songs before. For a recorded version of the song I always wanted the breakdown played on bass so it all came together in the rehearsal rooms. From there I knew the next logical step was to build it back up to a last chorus, however the chorus is quite short so the right thing to do was have the first verse again and a final chorus at the end of the song. I felt that a live recording was perfect for '30 Days' in order to capture the punky energy, particularly when the speed change kicks in. Also I would have been limited at home with a recording as i don't have access to a bass guitar which was key for the breakdown so playing it in college felt logical.

He's got, no personality and a shit trim to go with that.
